PRESS RELEASE: DUGGAN TO LAUNCH SERIES OF NEW MEDIA ENTERPRISES IN 2018

DUGGAN TO LAUNCH SERIES OF NEW MEDIA ENTERPRISES IN 2018
Hires public relations firm to help in debut of new television shows, other projects

NORTH ANDOVER – Tom Duggan, publisher of the widely-acclaimed Valley Patriot newspaper and noted author and on-air personality, announced today that he is launching several new ventures that will significantly expand his media presence in the Merrimack Valley and beyond.

In the coming weeks, Duggan will make a return to the airwaves with the launch of a new television and radio show called Paying Attention!, which will be produced regularly in partnership with Two Guys Smokeshop in Salem, NH. The one-hour shows will be broadcast live on-air each week and will be available for later viewing on popular nationwide media streaming services via the United Podcasting Network. The shows will also be available on iTunes and iHeartRadio.

In certain episodes, Duggan will provide news and commentary on local events and current affairs. In other programs, he will dig deeper into the stories of people making news today with interviews of notable personalities and community leaders. The show is currently scheduled to begin airing on Thursday, December 28 at 2pm, and will carry on the tradition of Duggan’s previous on-air work under the name Paying Attention!

“We have so many people who are interested in what we have to say, and I’m excited to get back on the airwaves to bring them news about the tough stories making headlines,” said Duggan. “These new programs will have distinct formats, which will give each show its own unique personality and sense of perspective. As a result, we will be able to focus not just on important issues that are front-and-center on peoples’ minds, but also on the story behind the people that are leading the debate on these issues every day.”

To help manage these new projects alongside his existing publishing responsibilities at The Valley Patriot, Duggan announced that he will be launching new communications and media infrastructure over the course of the next few weeks.

“We will have a brand new organization to help us better focus our efforts, providing structure and serving as a clearinghouse for some of the different projects we will be working on,” Duggan said.

In addition, Duggan is engaging the services of a prominent Merrimack Valley-based public relations firm, Lyric Consulting, to serve as his agent and to assist with communications.

“With everything going on right now I think I’m most excited to have Lyric Consulting helping to manage all of this. I’ve known Fred and Meredith for a long time and their skill set is exactly what I need to take all of this to the next level. I wouldn’t want anyone else by my side as we move forward.”

“I’m also very excited about all of these new ventures, which will give us a much greater ability to bring our message to a much larger audience,” Duggan said. “But, at the same time, I want loyal readers of The Valley Patriot to know that our commitment to print media will not be changing. We will continue to provide the same level of journalistic excellence we have prided ourselves on for more than ten years through The Valley Patriot, and we look forward to many more years of compelling stories throughout its pages. As always, I thank everyone who has supported us throughout all of these projects. Our work would not be possible without your support and assistance.”

About Tom Duggan

Tom Duggan grew up in Lawrence, Massachusetts. His father, Tom Duggan, Sr., proudly served as a police officer in the city for 18 years. On March 13, 1990, Officer Duggan was brutally murdered in the line of duty while attempting to protect innocent bystanders from a violent subject armed with a dangerous weapon. It was an event that would forever shape the life of Officer Duggan’s son, to whom he had given his name.

Today that same son, Tom Duggan, has built an impressive legacy for himself as a prominent voice and media personality in the Merrimack Valley of Massachusetts.

For the past 13 years, Duggan has published The Valley Patriot, a monthly newspaper that is distributed to about 22,000 readers in more than 35 communities across northeast Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. The paper was honored with a New England Press Association second place award for monthly news coverage in 2007. Together with its companion website, www.valleypatriot.com, and social media channels, The Valley Patriot is a trusted name in local and regional news.

Duggan is also a noted author, having published several books. His latest book, Heroes in Our Midst, is a compilation of profile stories about local veterans that have appeared in the pages of The Valley Patriot since 2004. Published in 2017, the book chronicles the distinguished service and indelible character of veterans from every branch of the armed forces, spanning from World War II to Afghanistan. Duggan also is co-author of the book Fighting Spirit (2015), which relates the previously-untold story of how The Acre section of Lowell helped to train some of the nation’s greatest boxers, a story which is told through the unique boxing career of “brawler” Bobby Christakos.

In addition to his published works, Duggan has been a frequent voice in regional media, having hosted several shows on WCAP and WHAV radio in recent years. He is a frequent guest speaker and lecturer on a range of matters, including criminal justice issues, journalism, and politics.
